Photosynthesis Lab
Procedure: 1) Design a hypothesis of what will happen.
2) Cover 1/3 of the plant in black paper, 1/3 in colored cellophane, and 1/3 uncovered (control).
3) Let the plant sit under steady light for 24 hrs.
4) Remove a leaf from each of the 3 sections and place in test tubes.
5) Boil in water and cool in water. place in a petri dish.
6) Add iodine and wait 3 mins for change.
7) Record data.
Results:
Control - Expected: The test will show that the control is positive.
Results: The test did show that the uncovered portion was positive for photosynthesis.
Blue - Expected: The test will show that the blue covered portion will show slight signs of photosynthesis
Results: The test showed it was a weak positive and allowed for a small amount of photosynthesis.
Black - Expected: The test will show that very little photosynthesis occured.
Result: The test showed that there was little to no sunlight entering the plant within that section.
Reflection: The projected was a quick and simple process, which was nice. We accomplished the task quickly, correctly, and on our first try. We did come across the fact that there seemed to be an excess amount of iodine in our petri dishes when we tested our leaves; and we were afraid that this might have messed with our data but the project went fine otherwise.
